Maggie fully understands the concepts of size, growth, and time

11/10/18

Funny exchange I wanted to capture. Maggie was saying something about "When Chase gets bigger" and I wanted to engage further on the topic.

I asked Maggie who she thought would be bigger when they were all grown up, her or Chase. She understands the idea of adult very well, and talks a lot about "when I'm a adult".

Maggie, when you are all grown up and an adult, and when Chase is all grown up and an adult, which one of you do you think will be larger?

She looked at me, thought about this carefully for a while, and then said: "giraffes are pretty big".

More posts needed!

Ok, so clearly this has not been the most prolific blog-writing experience in history. The idea for the blog was to capture funny moments with Maggie where there were many details that a picture would not nearly capture adequately.

Maggie is 7 months old now and has settled into some fun routines. We go to the park frequently and play on the swings and slide. During the summer we had some hot days and Maggie and I played around in the water a couple times. She seems to always be calm at the park and lots watching all the activity. We watched soccer playing this week and she was enthralled.

Funny behaviors of late: I sit Maggie on my chest and nibble on her toes and fingers. She giggles and kicks wildly. She pulls her hands back but then puts them back in my face as she actually likes the nibbling. This is also a good position. From which to blow in Maggie's face and ruffle her hair.

She continues to be obsessed with newspaper and the houseplant. She can now locomote forward in the car to get herself to the plant!

More piano playing

Maggie had a good piano session tonight. Several prolonged pieces. Also, took a walk to Whole Foods. Maggie was very well behaved.

And did some more flipping over today. No front to back though.

And said 'dada' probably 20 times!

Maggie gets all the attention!

Busy weekend with the Maggers.
  • Saturday we went down to the Flugtag to check it out. I wore Maggie on my front. We kept her covered up most of the time and she was pretty much asleep the whole time. Nice that we are able to take her out in these situations and it doesn't really hamper our ability to get out.
  • Saturday evening - Bailey's birthday party. Maggie was the center of attention!
  • Sunday, we took a walk to New Seasons. Near the deli section, there was a cart with 2 young kids in it. When they saw Maggie they called out "baby!" and I took Maggie over to say hi. We struck up a conversation with their mom and it was interesting to see how easily a baby and kids facilitate a conversation. The girl's name was "Indira" which seems to be a classic New Seasons type child name. As we walked away they were both shouting, "bye Maggie!"
  • In the produce section, a guy asked how old Maggie was and said that she looks really long. He had a 3 month old and was curious to know how long Maggie was at this point.
  • Sunday, walking to Hankin's hardware, a woman told me "cute hat, and cute baby" as I walked by. Once in the hardware store, Maggie enjoyed seeing all of the new things, and was willing to grab anything I put in front of her.
  • Maggie's response to reading books has changed slightly. She is a bit more patient, but also grabs on to the edge of the book as much as possible.
  • Maggie and I were lying on the couch this afternoon and she was reaching her hands up to my face. I was pretending to bite her fingers and she was delighted by this. :)
  • This morning, feeding and putting Maggie down for a nap turned into a freak out. She got over it, but only after about 30 minutes of hysterics.
  • This just in - Maggie has found her feet! She grabs her left foot (left hand) more than her right, but does grab both. Flipping over is still a work in progress.

Hammock and Sunday paper

Maggie's feet were totally blackened after 20 minutes of furious kicking of the newspaper. So much fun!

Monday evening outing

On 7/13 Maggie and I were on our own with mommy playing volleyball. We strolled up to Quesabrosa to get some tacos, and also went to the tasting lab. We lay in the grass at the park watching softball, eating tacos, drinking PBR, eating sticky buns, and enjoying each other's company. Once we got home, Maggie did not go to sleep easily! Major screaming.

Waterpark girl

Maggie and I played in the fountains at Irving Park for the first time last night. The water was cold so we didn't get fully soaked, but Maggie did well and stayed comfortable. And she got lots of attention from some other park goers.
